Car Insurance BMW (Car Insurance). What happens if you connect 2 cars' batteries without turning them on?What happens if you connect 2 cars' batteries without turning them on? Like say you connect 2 batteries just like you would if you were going to jump start (obviously connecting the negative on a metal part of the dead battery car) but you dont start up neither. Leave it connected for a few seconds or maybe a minute. Would that charge up the battery for later? or would It just be a call for an explosion or something like that??? Thanks NO RUDE ANSWERS please I believe at one both batteries would have the same amount of power. The good battery would transfer as much more power it has to the bad one until the bad one reaches a level equal to the bad battery. If the bad battery doesn't hold a charge, then, they would eventually die. If you just start the car the alternator will charge the battery The car that is Dead should not be running, but the car that works should be running. Then once the wires are connected to the batteries start the car that dosnt work, if that dosnt work then you have a different problem your mom will explode Depending on the age of the host vehicle the best way is: Connect the cables - pos to pos and neg from host vehicle to metal bracket, away from battery, on dead vehicle. It wouldn't do anything but maybe drain the good battery a little. If that. Don't use an alternator to try and charge a dead battery, they are not designed to do that and in fact, will get damaged trying. Use a battery charger. I'm pretty sure the dealership got it from an auction. They want $2800 for it. It seems the price is low for a toyota, especially one that's a 1.8L. I talked to the dealer on the phone and they told me the car has no problems. I'm going to test drive it on Thursday (in two days). Is this a good deal? or does this year corolla have problems with something i'm unaware of? I checked reviews online and they were very good for the most part and the KBB price is $4500+. BMW . How to Remove a DentA dented vehicle is not only an eyesore, it can be a haven for rust that forms in the cracked paint in and around the dent. Having a dent removed at a collision repair shop can be very expensive because of costly labor and materials. But you can remove a dent on a vehicle yourself in under a few hours using only a handful of materials from a local auto parts store. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Drill Slide hammer 80 grit sandpaper Body filler 120 grit sandpaper 300 grit sandpaper Spray primer Spray paint Step by Step : 1 Drill small holes inside the dent in various spots. Drill a hole in the center and in several other areas in the dent. Keep the holes at least a few inches apart. 2 Insert the screw tip of a slide hammer into each drilled hole and screw it in. Slide the hammer handle back and forth to "pull" the dent out. Rotate the slide hammer in the hole until the dent is fairly level with the surface of the vehicle. Follow this procedure for each hole. Remove the slide hammer. 3 Use 80 grit sandpaper to sand the dented area until all of the paint has been removed. Make sure to sand the area where the holes were drilled. Sand at least 2 inches around the dent itself. 4 Apply a thick layer of body filler over the entire area so that the filler stands higher than the surrounding surface of the vehicle. Make sure all of the drilled holes are completely filled in and cannot be seen. Let the filler dry for one hour. 5 Sand the dried filler using 120 grit sandpaper until the filler is smooth and level with the surface of the car. Sand over the filler once again using 300 grit sandpaper to smooth the grooves left by the 120 grit paper. 6 Spray a thick coat of primer over the area and let it dry for thirty minutes. Once dry, spray three to five thin coats of paint over the primer. Let each coat dry for five minutes. Let the last coat dry for at least six hours before handling.
BMW . How to Change an Auto Ignition LockAn automobile is a combination of various parts working in perfect harmony, with the goal of delivering comfort and utility to its owner. Your vehicle requires proper maintenance to operate efficiently. The ignition lock is one of many heavily used components on an auto; eventually, wear and tear takes a toll and the lock will need to be replaced. The procedure is simple and once it is replaced, your new ignition lock will provide reliable service for years to come. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Pliers Flashlight Phillips screwdriver Flat-head screwdriver Socket wrench Wrench set Replacement ignition lock Step by Step : 1 Park your vehicle in "Neutral" and set the parking brake. Open the hood and disconnect the negative cable from the battery using a wrench. 2 Locate the screws holding the steering cover in place. The steering cover consists of two halves fastened together with a pair of Phillips screws; the screws are located on the underside of the steering column. Use a flashlight if you need more light to see the screws. Remove the screws with the Phillips screwdriver. Remove both sections of the steering cover to expose the cylindrical ignition lock. 3 Remove the screws holding the ignition lock in place using a flat-head screwdriver. Be careful not to damage the wiring connected to the lock through the wire grip. On some vehicles, a bolt secures the ignition lock and you'll use a socket wrench to remove this bolt. 4 Remove the ignition lock carefully. Once unscrewed, it will slide out easily. Detach the wire grip connecting the lock to the vehicle's electrical system. Discard the old ignition lock. 5 Connect the wire grip to the new ignition lock. The wire grip is fragile so handle it carefully. 6 Reconnect the negative battery cable and test the new ignition lock. Turn the key from "Off" to "On" several times. If the ignition lock turns smoothly and performs as expected, start the car several times. 7 Disconnect the negative battery cable again with a wrench before proceeding. 8 Secure the new ignition lock in place. The wires leading to the wire grip may be different lengths so you may need to maneuver the lock to avoid crimping the wires. 9 Fasten the ignition lock in place using the Phillips screwdriver to tighten the screws you removed earlier. Reattach the steering cover, starting with the lower half and then the top. Tighten the Phillips screws to secure the steering cover in place. Tips & Warnings Make sure the new ignition lock is similar to the one being replaced or it might not fit properly or turn smoothly. Disconnect the battery before you begin testing to avoid shorts and shocks. Attach the wire grip firmly to prevent sparking during use of the ignition lock. If the switch does not work when you test it, disconnect the battery and check the ignition lock wiring for loose connections. The wire grip is delicate so handle it carefully -- use only your fingers, not pliers or other tools. Using an incompatible, aftermarket ignition lock may produce undesirable results. Always replace the ignition lock with a fully compatible replacement designed for your vehicle make and model. *Unevenly or prematurely worn belts, tires, and hoses (You can find a whole list of symptoms in Chapter 20.) Part IV: Dealing with On-the-Road Emergencies If you can provide enough information to help the shop diagnose the trouble easily, you won't have to pay for test drives and electronic diagnostic procedures that may cost more than the simple adjustments or repairs that are necessary. u* Provide the clearest information you can regarding all the symptoms, but do not diagnose the problem yourself! If you tell a shop that your vehicle needs a specific job done on it, then that's the work that will be done, and you will pay for it, whether the vehicle needed it or not. If you want to inquire whether the trouble might be caused by a malfunction in a specific part, then do so, but keep it in the form of a question. The final diagnosis must be up to the repair shop so that it can be responsible if the diagnosis turns out to be wrong. *<* Keep a maintenance record on your vehicle and bring a photocopy for the shop's records if it hasn't done the past maintenance. I've provided a blank Maintenance Record and a Specification Record that you can use at the back of this book. V Don't press to get the job done fast unless you're really in a bind. 1004

A great way to get the pressure off everybody is to see whether the shop has a spare car, or loaner, that you can borrow while work is being done on your vehicle. u* Call to make sure that your vehicle is ready before you come to pick it up. If it isn't, try to be understanding (unless the shop is chronically slow about getting work done). If it's a matter of parts that were ordered but not delivered on time, there's little that the shop can do about it. If it's just that the shop is overbooked with work, be polite but firm about your need to get the vehicle back as soon as possible. V* When the vehicle is ready, ask what was wrong and what they did to repair the problem. Keep a repair log, and add the information to it for future reference. u* Be prepared to spend a little time test-driving to be sure that the job's been done to your satisfaction. You're better off returning immediately with your complaints than showing up several days later, when any number of things may have happened to mess things up. v* Show your appreciation for a job well done. A phone call to the manager or a letter that the shop can display, praising a technician's work, means a lot to a service facility. If you know that your favorite technician likes a particular beverage or snack, bring some along in a paper bag and pick your car up at the end of the day. If you're lucky, you may get invited to share it. Getting satisfaction on any complaint I learned the following technique from an excellent human-potential trainer, and I pass it on to you. It's based on this "Golden Rule": The best way to get what you want is to maintain a friendly attitude in all disputes — and refuse to be swayed from your purpose! Follow these steps to get satisfaction: 1. Before you contact anyone, decide exactly what you want done. Presenting a specific plan for remedial action is much more powerful than waiting passively for someone else to decide what they're willing to do for you. 2. Time your campaign carefully. BMW .
